What Is Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling martial art practiced in the traditional Gi (kimono), which allows for grips, control, and a wider range of technical submissions. Practitioners use the jacket, pants, and belt to apply sweeps, chokes, and joint locks, developing strong fundamentals, precision, and leverage. Training in the Gi builds a deep understanding of technique that translates to both self-defense and No-Gi grappling.

Our Gi classes are suitable for complete beginners through to advanced grapplers. You’ll train alongside people from all backgrounds — amateurs, competitors, and those new to the sport — in a respectful and inclusive environment.

We focus on:

  • Safe training — thoughtful drilling, proper technique, and an emphasis on looking after your training partners.
  • Steady development — a calm, ego-free environment where learning comes before winning rounds.
  • Practical skill-building — sharpen your grips, timing, and technique to create real, lasting progress on the mats.
